Besides being one of the most important inventors of the 19th century, Lewis Latimer had a profound belief in fostering environments that encourage collaboration and bring people together. The house was repositioned from a museum to a community open house - a center for collaboration that is meant to inspire curiosity and provide resources for ideas of underrepresented individuals and communities, both in its local neighborhood of Flushing, Queens, but also the wider world.
Visual language explores the enduring relevance of Latimer's mindset that empowers conversations today to solve the problems of tomorrow. Although the house signifies the past, its mission is to pique excitement of present and future.
